Danis Katranidis

Biography

Danis (Daniel) Katranidis (Greek: Δάνης (Δανιήλ) Κατρανίδης, Aigaleo, 4 August 1949 – Athens, 1 September 2024) was a Greek actor.

He was born on 4 August 1949 in Aigaleo. He was a graduate (1971) of the Athens Higher Drama School Giorgos Theodosiadis. During the period 1971–1978 he was an actor at the National Theatre. In the 1978–1979 theatrical season he made history in the role of the compere in the legendary play Cabaret, staged with great success by Aliki Vougiouklaki, with whom he collaborated continuously for a decade. He acted in all types of theatre, from tragedy and comedy to musicals and revues, while his participation in radio theatre is highly noteworthy. He taught at the Higher Drama School "Iasmos" and at the "Vassilis Diamantopoulos" Theatre Workshop. A lover of the sea and a keen sailor, he had dozens of participations and victories in offshore competitions to his credit. In 1971, he married fellow actress and classmate at the Theodosiadis School, Mirka Papakonstantinou. They divorced in 1977. He then married and divorced twice more, with his last marriage being to choreographer Eliza Palli. He died of cancer at the age of 75 on 1 September 2024. He was buried in Zografou Cemetery on 5 September.
